Update:
Summertime and LTS Heavy Lifting
Summer “vacation” for many in LTS, and some other university
departments, is the crucial window for upgrading facilities
with minimal disruption to the academic program.
We don’t run bulldozers but a lot of “heavy lifting” takes
place nonetheless.
Summer 2008 saw:
-
210 new public site computers were
installed, including all of the iMacs in the Digital
Media Studio, systems in the RBC, the EWFM 8B Training
Lab, the Media Center, and Coppee.
-
Upgrades to AV technology in 20
classrooms, with new instructor’s podium and PC, a
computer projector, DVD player, and screen. Upgrades
took place in RBC, Maginnes, Chandler and several other
locations across campus.
-
Installation of wireless connectivity in
Christmas Saucon and parts of Stabler Arena and testing
of a new, coming wireless standard, 802.11N.
-
Installation of 165 new telephones for
the classroom alert system...

-
Installation of the new Special
Collections Exhibit: How to Become an Engineer: Toys,
Tools, and Technology...
see article
-
Three new high end computing upgrades: a
new compute server, an 18-node Linux login farm, and 20
Lynix workstations...

-
Subscription to ICPSR, the world's
largest archive of digital social science data with
Professor Ziad Munson as Lehigh’s ICPSR representative.
As you can see from the
list above, we've been very busy this summer. Be sure to
read the articles describing some of these accomplishments
in this edition.
